Matar Upma is a traditional
south Indian breakfast dish made from semolina or suji. It is nutritious, ghee
and carefully balanced spices make it simply irresistible. Follow this simple
south Indian breakfast recipe and discover how really easy it is to make at

Ingredients :
- 1 cup suji / semolina
- ¼ cup matar / green peas
- ½ cup onion ( fine chopped )
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tbsp chana dal ( Split Bengal gram )
- 1 tbsp udad dal (Split Black gram )
- 2-3 green chili ( fine chopped ) ( as per your taste )
- 10-12 curry leaves
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 3 cup water
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tbsp ghee
- Salt according to your taste ( approx 1½ tsp )
- Coriander for garnishing
Method
:
- Roast suji in ghee on low flame in thick bottom pan till it starts to change color and gives out a nice smell.
- Transfer it in plate.
- Heat oil in a non stick pan on slow flame.
- Add mustard seeds, when it splutter add both dal.
- Do not let the dal turn brown.
- Add curry leaves and chilies.
- Sauté for a while, add onion.
- Fry till onion turns transparent.
- Add peas. Fry for 1-2 min.
- Add water. Add salt. Boil.
- Cover and cook on low flame till peas and dal turn soft.
- Gradually roasted suji. Keep stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
- Keep mixing well till water dries up.
- Cook for a few minute more.
- Turn of flame.
- Add lemon juice and coriander.
- Serve hot.
